Daughters
By John Morgan Evans

Directed by Bob Mira

Tues & Wed evenings at 7:30 pm, July 22 & 23.
Call backs on Wednesday July 30.

Play opens on Sept. 12 and plays thru Oct. 4 with 2 Sunday Matinees.

In this beautifully- written, heartfelt comedy, four generations of Italian-American women gather in the kitchen of the DiAngelo's Brooklyn home to deal with life, death and cannelloni, while the dying family patriarch is in the bedroom listening to Italian opera records. Warm and funny, Daughters is one of the best-written family plays of the last few years, with five incredibly rich and clever roles for women.

All roles are open

Cast - 5 Women

Tessie – age 40 (35 – 45) – Outspoken, obstinate, controlling - a take-charge neurotic trying to hold it all together despite being on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Mom – age 65 (55 – 70) – A hard-working homemaker, absent-minded, often puts her foot in her mouth - dishes up endless batches of manicotti and lasagna. A “you don’t eat enough, you’re wasting away” mother with the best of intentions but not very wise to the world.

Patty Ann – age 35 (25 – 40) – Shallow, self-indulgent, relishes status as wife of a Long Island businessman who would spend all day on Rodeo Drive. Versace everything and external polish. Struggles to maintain appearances while she is being torn apart inside.

Grandma – age 93 (55 – 100) – Sensible and silent - never learned English but always effectively communicates her good nature to those she loves. Sincere and wise even though everyone speaks of her as if she was not in the room.

Cetta – age 17 (15 – 24) – Independent, energetic, strong-willed, resilient and beautiful, a young woman trying to grow up too fast and probably capable of it. She is near going down the same path as her mother (Tessie) and at a critical point in her life, resulting in a struggle between listening to her heart and her head.
